There’s something quietly magical about receiving a bunch of flowers. But behind the beauty is a whole chain of care — from growers rising ridiculously early to get their produce to market for you, to the hands that tie the final piece of twine around your bunch. At Little Flowers, that journey starts with the quiet intention of making the most beautiful bunches possible, and ends with the impact of smiles on faces all across Sydney. Every bit of the journey is special to us, and we’d love to share it with you…

Rooted in Relationship: Where Our Flowers Come From

Our flowers begin their journey long before they arrive at the Sydney Flower Market. Many of the growers we buy from are second- or third-generation farmers, often the children of immigrants who built flower farms from the ground up with nothing but grit and love.

Their knowledge isn’t just technical, it’s ancestral. We know the stories: parents working into their seventies, grandchildren rising before dawn to help load the freshest blooms into trucks bound for the market. We’ve stood by these growers through floods, fires, droughts, and storms — and they’ve stood by us. We’ve lost count of the times growers have kept their best flowers aside for us, given us tip offs about good crops coming up, or helped us hunt down something special at market in the small hours of the morning.

So, when we source your flowers we’re not just doing a transaction. We’re supporting hard working men and women who love the land and really know their stuff. And we’re leaning on relationships that have been built over more than a decade to make sure we source the best flowers we can for you. We’ve built trust with growers, so they text us when something *exceptional* comes in and they won’t let us buy if their crop isn’t good enough quality. Sometimes, the best choice is holding off a week and waiting for something perfect to come through. That kind of quality only comes from true connection.

Knowing exactly where your flowers come from? That’s something special.

Market Mornings: Early Starts and Sharp Eyes

You’ll often find us the Sydney Flower Market bright and early, chatting to growers and scoping out what’s looking its best. The mood of the market changes with the seasons and the day of the week, but its always exciting to spot new flowers in their first flush and we love talking to the growers about what’s happening at the farm. Thankfully we don’t always need to be at the flower market at 5am to know what’s blooming. Our close relationships with farmers and many years of watching the ebb and flow of nature mean that we always have our finger on the floral pulse, even if it’s from afar.

Most of our blooms are ordered in advance and delivered directly to us, so they’re even fresher, and they are always sourced with care and foresight based on what’s at its best each week. Sometimes, if something especially beautiful pops up last-minute, we’ll make a quick pivot to snap it up. But more often, it’s our behind-the-scenes knowledge and strong relationships that ensure every bunch is packed with the best of what the season has to offer.

Our growers and delivery drivers are already deep into their day before the sun rises, with farmers arriving at the market in the small hours and working through the night to make sure everything arrives on time and in perfect condition.

Crafted by Hand, Guided by Heart

Back at Little Flowers HQ, our florists take over. They’re a mix of trained florists and creative souls from other walks of life — but all of them are drawn to beauty, colour, and thoughtful design.

The workspace often buzzes with music, laughter, and the comforting rhythm of floristry. Over the years, many friendships have been made here. We’re very proud to have created a culture where those who move on often return to lend a hand on the big days like Valentine’s or Mother’s Day, and always say how good it is to be back.

From recipe to reality — floristry is part planning, part art.

We usually have a plan — a rough recipe for the day’s mixed bunch — but each bloom is a little different. Stems bend unexpectedly. Colours vary. Our florists gently adjust, adapting on the fly to create balance and harmony in every bunch.

Sometimes, we know the story behind a flower delivery. Maybe it’s a birthday, or a breakup, or a quiet “thinking of you.” In those moments, we might pause and picture the person receiving the flowers. That awareness often shapes the final touch.

And then there are the flowers that stop us in our tracks: an enormous, perfect dahlia; a rose with tiny buds clustered on one stem; a bloom that’s half one colour, half another. These get shown off, snapped for instagram stories and generally admired with a little collective awe.

Keeping It All Running: Our Admin Team

Behind the scenes, another essential part of Little Flowers hums into action: our admin team. Mostly based at HQ, they are the calm centre in what can sometimes be a whirlwind of activity. They print the daily message tags, organise the delivery runs so they’re as efficient (and therefore as eco friendly as possible) and ensure that every bunch finds its correct destination when queries come up.

When orders ramp up and couriers arrive thick and fast, they keep the rhythm steady, handling last-minute curveballs and sorting out delivery queries on the fly. But don’t be fooled – our admin team aren’t just masters of courier runs and dispatch — they understand and care about the sentiment behind each order and treat every bunch and every customer query with the attention it deserves. Their quiet dedication helps make sure every flower, every message and every small act of kindness lands exactly where it’s meant to.

Pedals and Petals: The Final Stretch

Once the bunches are made, they’re handed over to our delivery wizards — including our bike couriers, who deliver around a quarter of our orders.

In the early days, we’d meet up daily outside 1 York Street in Sydney’s CBD with two riders named Joe and Andy. Our tiny van would be packed with flowers, and we’d be running on our third coffee of the day. Rain or shine, off they’d go on their bikes, baskets full of blooms, riding into the CBD.

Right from the start, we heard stories from them of reactions when they delivered: gasps, hugs, even tears. The flowers meant something. They *mattered*. These weren’t just deliveries. They were ripples of happiness. And they still are. This is what makes what we do, together with our customers, so very special.

Since then, we’ve delivered over 100,000 bunches with help from couriers like these — and from our car drivers too. Each one plays a vital role in getting flowers safely to their destination. Many of them have become part of the fabric of our business and part of our extended flower family. We’re endlessly grateful for the care and heart they all bring to the final leg of the journey, and we know how much they love seeing the smiles your flowers bring to the people they hand them over to.

What It All Means

Each Little Flowers bunch is so much more than a pretty arrangement. It’s a living thread that connects so many people and moments together. It begins with the growers who have spent decades working the land with dedication and heart. It continues with our careful sourcing—choosing blooms that are at their freshest and most beautiful, season after season. It is shaped by our florists, who bring colour, intuition, and thoughtfulness to every stem they touch. It’s managed by our admin team with love and care. And it is carried by our couriers and drivers, who deliver not just flowers, but a gesture, a feeling, a spark of connection.

A fresh flower bunch left at a doorstep

Every flower, message, and gesture — delivered with heart.

From market to doorstep, every bunch is the result of countless small decisions, expert hands, and a shared sense of purpose. A lot of heart goes into every single one.

We’re so proud to be part of it — and so thankful that you are too.

Want to send a bunch with heart? Explore our Daily Mixed Bouquet or browse our Seasonal Flower range to find something that speaks to the moment. And for ongoing joy, check out our flower subscriptions. Every bunch is different. But the feeling it creates? Always the same.
