Mini Live Christmas Trees Are Back for 2025 – Real, Replantable, and Ready to Brighten Sydney Homes

They’re back – our Mini Live Christmas Trees return for 2025, giving Sydney a simple way to have a more sustainable Christmas. We’ve long wanted to solve the age-old problem of what to do with your tree after Christmas – and this is it: a real, potted tree you can enjoy in December, then send back to Mother Nature in January.

We buy to order so trees aren’t sitting around. Most people want their trees delivered in the first week of December, which is exactly when suppliers sell out. If you’d like one, think about it now – order early and we’ll secure your tree for delivery from 1 December. Once suppliers are out, we’ll only have a very limited number on hand because we avoid over-buying.

It’s our third year partnering with Jamberoo Mountain Farm in the misty Southern Highlands – a family-run, regenerative farm with hens, cows, kids, a friendly dog and (occasionally) kangaroos. Their natural farming methods keep the land thriving without pesticides. When the festivities are over, your living tree doesn’t have to sit on the kerb – it gets a second life down on the farm.

A Sydney Christmas Tradition That Keeps Growing

It all began with a simple problem: every January, Sydney’s kerbs fill up with sad, brown Christmas trees waiting for the bin truck. We hated seeing that – so we decided to offer a better way.

Our Mini Live Christmas Trees come potted and ready to replant, giving people a way to celebrate Christmas without the waste. When January rolls around, our team heads out across the city – from Bondi Beach to Beecroft – collecting the trees our customers bought from us over the holidays. It’s always a highlight seeing the friendly faces (and dogs) who’ve been part of this little eco experiment.

Collecting Little Flowers live Christmas trees from Bondi Beach

Once the van is full, we drive them down to Jamberoo Mountain Farm, where each one is carefully replanted by hand. Some years it’s bright sunshine, other times it’s mist and drizzle – but either way, it’s a joy to see them go back to the earth.

Over time, these trees help encourage local wildlife, enrich the soil, and store more carbon in the landscape. What began as a quiet idea – to give Christmas trees a second life – has been growing every year, and we’re excited by what it’s becoming. There’s something special about seeing more people choose this simple, sustainable tradition – one that keeps giving long after the decorations come down.

How Our Mini Live Christmas Trees Work (and Why They’re a Little Different)

Little Flowers team planting live Christmas trees after delivery from Sydney

It’s a pretty simple idea – but it takes a bit of coordination (and a lot of heart). When you order one of our Mini Live Christmas Trees, we secure your tree with our grower so it’s set aside for you before the December rush begins. We don’t hold piles of stock – most trees are arranged to order, which means they arrive fresh, healthy and ready to decorate. A little planning now makes all the difference once Christmas week hits and suppliers start to sell out.

What makes it different is that we don’t just deliver your tree — we give it a full circle. Most Christmas trees are cut, sold and binned by New Year’s Day. Ours are grown locally, delivered in pots, and collected after the holidays to be replanted on a regenerative family farm. It’s a small, hands-on system designed to be kinder to the planet, support local growers, and make Christmas feel good from start to finish.

How it works:

1. Order your mini live Christmas tree – available from 1 December.
2. Choose your size – small, medium, or large. Smaller trees are often delivered by our bike couriers; larger ones travel in our delivery vans – both batched for efficiency, so every delivery does more good with fewer kilometres.
3. Display and decorate – they look great with lights or handmade touches (we’ve seen some beautifully creative versions over the years).
4. Let us know your collection address
5. After Christmas, leave your tree outside your house / apartment on the designated day and we’ll collect it (mid-January) and take it down to Jamberoo Mountain Farm.
6. Your tree gets a second life – replanted among native trees, with its new name tag attached, ready to grow slowly and steadily in the Southern Highlands air.

Caring for Your Mini Live Christmas Tree

Mini live Christmas trees with team from Little Flowers and Jamberoo Mountain Farm

Your tree is a hardy little thing, but it’ll need some love to stay healthy and happy until it’s time to head back to the farm. Think of it less like a decoration and more like a house guest that thrives with a bit of attention.

– Keep it in a well-lit spot – near a bright window or outside on a balcony or verandah.-
– Check the soil regularly and keep it moist, not soggy.
– Give it a thorough watering once or twice a week – enough for water to run through the bottom of the pot.
– If you can’t move the tree outside for a deep soak, give it a light top-up daily to stop the soil from drying out.
– When in doubt, check the care card that comes with your tree – it includes all the watering tips you’ll need for a happy, replantable pine.

Healthy, hydrated trees have the best chance of thriving once they’re replanted at Jamberoo Mountain Farm, and every one that flourishes there means a little more green for the planet (and a little less on Sydney’s kerbs in January).

A Day on the Farm — Where Your Tree Goes Next

By mid-January, the Little Flowers van is packed and ready to head south. A few hours later, we roll into Jamberoo Mountain Farm – a lush, working property in the Southern Highlands where your Christmas tree will start its new life.

The farm is run by Nicole and Lachlan, who use a natural, regenerative farming system. Their cows and chickens aren’t just adorable – they play a vital role in fertilising and regenerating the soil, keeping it rich and healthy without chemicals or pesticides. It’s farming that works with nature, not against it.

Every January, our team joins the family to help with the planting – a tradition we look forward to each year. There’s something special about standing side by side, returning trees that brought joy in December back to the soil they came from. It’s a simple, hopeful reminder that when we take care of nature, it has a beautiful way of taking care of us.

The Joy of Little Things (and Why It Matters)

Farmer Lachy from Jamberoo Mountain Farm - Little Flowers replanting partners

For us, this isn’t just about Christmas trees – it’s about care, connection, and doing things that feel right. Every replantable tree helps reduce waste, support biodiversity, and capture a little more carbon in the soil. Each one makes a difference, and together they’re helping to grow something bigger than all of us.

It’s also a reminder that small, thoughtful choices – whether that’s choosing locally grown flowers, supporting sustainable farms, or sending something that lasts beyond the moment – can create real good in the world.

If you’ve followed our journey for a while, you’ll know this approach runs through everything we do. (You can read more in Why Seasonal Flowers Are Better (For You and the Planet).

Gift a Tree – The Thoughtful Christmas Gesture

Mini live Christmas trees - a thoughtful Sydney gift

Our Mini Live Christmas Trees make beautiful gifts – for families, friends, colleagues, or even yourself. Plenty of people order one just because they love the idea of a real tree that keeps on living after Christmas. They’re also a lovely way to teach kids about sustainability – how care and patience can turn a small gesture into something lasting.

They’ve become a favourite among businesses too – an eco-friendly corporate gift that feels genuine, thoughtful, and a little bit different from the usual bottle of wine or hamper.

This year, every tree will come with its own name tag – you can name your tree (“Spruce Springsteen” or “Piney McPineface,” anyone?) or simply write your family name and the year. When we replant them, the tags stay on, so over time we can share updates about individual trees as they grow.

It’s a small, living reminder that Christmas doesn’t have to end when the decorations come down.

Ready to Order? Don’t Wait Too Long!

Little Flowers delivering mini live Christmas trees across Sydney 2025

Our Mini Live Christmas Trees will be available from 1 December, with collections happening in mid-January.

Because we buy to order, we can secure your tree directly with our grower before their stock disappears – but once the early December rush hits, supplies move fast. After that, we’ll have only a limited number available, because we’d rather keep things sustainable than over-buy and waste.

So if you’d like one, now’s the time to get organised. You can choose your size, schedule your delivery, and join us in growing a greener kind of Christmas.

Q&A: Little Flowers Live Christmas Trees

Q: What do I do with my Christmas tree after Christmas?

A: Instead of leaving your tree on the kerb, you can have it collected and replanted. When you buy a Mini Live Christmas Tree from Little Flowers, we’ll collect it in mid-January and deliver it to Jamberoo Mountain Farm, where it gets planted back into the earth for a second life.

Q: Can Christmas trees go in green waste?

A: Real cut trees can go in green waste bins in some Sydney councils, but our live, potted trees don’t need to go to waste at all – they’re replanted and kept alive long after the holidays.

Q: How do I keep my Christmas tree alive?

A: Keep your tree in a bright spot, check the soil often, and water regularly. Healthy, hydrated trees have the best chance of thriving when they’re replanted.

Q: What’s the most sustainable type of Christmas tree?

A: A replantable, locally grown tree is the most sustainable choice – it stores carbon, supports local growers, and can be returned to the earth. That’s exactly how our Mini Live Christmas Trees work.

Q: Is there an eco-friendly alternative to an artificial Christmas tree?

A: Yes! Real, potted Christmas trees are better for the planet because they’re living plants – they clean the air and can be replanted instead of ending up in landfill.

Q: How long does it take for an artificial Christmas tree to decompose?

A: Artificial trees are made from PVC and metals that can take hundreds of years to break down. Choosing a living, replantable tree helps reduce that impact immediately.

Q: How can I have a more sustainable Christmas?

A: Simple swaps make a big difference – choose locally grown flowers, thoughtful gifts, and a real, replantable Christmas tree. You’ll be giving twice: once to your loved ones, and once to the planet.
