You know it’s Peony season when Sydney collectively loses its cool. The markets buzz, group chats light up, and our florists start getting texts that simply read: “Are they here yet?”
Every year it happens – a few short weeks where the air feels a bit more expectant. One minute they’re tight, round buds; the next, they’ve exploded into layers of ruffles that make you stop and stare.
They’re the “because I’m worth it” bunch. The “just because” bunch. The “I saw these and thought of you” bunch.
For us, Peony season is a highlight of the floral year – short, spectacular, and always worth the wait. As soon as we spot the first stems at the market, we know what’s coming: weeks of lush, colourful happiness making its way across Sydney, wrapped in crisp white paper and tied with string.
There’s something about Peonies that makes people stop in their tracks. They have presence – all curve and softness, without trying too hard. The buds start out small and tight, almost unassuming, and then over a few days, they open into something enormous and full. It still feels a bit miraculous, no matter how many times we see it happen.
They’re exactly what people hope for: big, generous blooms that feel like they’ve been waiting all year to arrive.
Maybe that’s part of the pull. Peonies are an indulgence – the kind of flower people buy for themselves when they’re feeling good, or send to someone who deserves a little reminder of just how great they are. They’re confident, joyful, and a little bit self-assured. A bunch that says, without fuss: you deserve the best.
Peony season in Sydney doesn’t hang around. It usually begins in late October and lasts until early December – a small window that feels like it disappears almost as soon as it arrives. That’s part of their charm: they’re genuinely seasonal, shaped by weather and local growing conditions rather than being forced or imported. You can read more about why seasonal flowers are better for you and the planet if, like us, you love knowing what’s in season and why it matters.
We only ever use Australian-grown Peonies, so once the local season ends, that’s it until next year. If you spot Peonies in Sydney in the middle of winter, they’ve almost certainly arrived on a plane. Ours never do.
The short season gives them a kind of cult status – people wait all year, and when they finally appear, it’s like the start of summer has officially been announced. For a few bright weeks, the flower market fills with pinks and corals and whites, and everyone’s a little bit happier for it.
All of our Peonies come from Australian growers, and we plan to keep it that way. We never import them – it’s one of the simplest ways we can support Australian growers and keep things fresh. You can learn more about local vs imported flowers and why we think it’s worth caring about where your flowers come from.
The season usually starts with early crops from around Melbourne, before moving south as the weather warms. By the time it reaches Tasmania, it’s the last stretch of the season – Peonies tend to last a little longer there thanks to the cooler climate.
Each week brings subtle differences in shape, colour and variety. Some are soft and full, others bright and bold. We work closely with our market supplier, who lets us know what’s looking best each morning and helps us secure the best price for our customers.
It’s a rhythm we look forward to every year – a short, beautiful window when the best of the season is right here in Australia, ready to be wrapped in white paper and sent across Sydney.
Peony season moves quickly, so getting the timing right matters. Our supplier at the flower market keeps an eye on quality and price every morning, letting us know which varieties are at their peak. It’s a bit of a balancing act – the right colour, the right stage of opening, and the right moment to buy before they’re gone.
We’ll often see different varieties come through the season – from rich corals and hot pinks to soft blush and white. Some weeks the petals are a little looser and more ruffled; other weeks they’re dense and sculptural. Every bunch we send reflects what’s best that day.
Once the flowers are back at HQ, they’re trimmed, hydrated and wrapped in crisp white paper, ready for delivery across Sydney. It’s a simple process, but one that relies on experience – knowing when to grab a certain batch, how to handle them gently, and when they’re just open enough to make someone’s day.
Peony season isn’t just for home deliveries – it’s also a favourite for our corporate clients. Offices, event teams and PR agencies often use them for product launches, client gifts or brand activations during this short, high-impact season.
We offer bespoke Peony orders in larger quantities, wrapped in company-branded paper or paired with special foliage to match an event or brand palette. Every bunch is prepared fresh and delivered across Sydney with the same care as our daily orders.
Because the season is short and stock moves fast, it’s best to get in touch early if you’re planning something special. We’ll make sure your timing lines up with the best of the crop and help you send something that really stands out. For larger campaigns or ongoing gifting programs, you can find out more about our corporate flower delivery options.
As soon as the first Peonies hit the market, things move quickly. They sell out most days, and the best blooms go early – which means a little forward planning goes a long way. Once they’re available, you can order Peonies for same-day delivery across Sydney, Monday to Sunday.
They’re one of the few flowers that people send just as often to themselves as to someone else. Sometimes it’s to celebrate a milestone, sometimes it’s a small reward for getting through the week. Other times it’s a way of saying to a friend, you deserve the best.
We deliver Peonies right across the Sydney metro area – from Bondi to the CBD, Surry Hills to North Sydney, and well beyond. Whether you’re sending a gift across town or ordering for yourself, our drivers make sure each bunch arrives fresh, fast and full of colour.
Each bunch is wrapped in crisp white paper and tied with string – simple, beautiful, and unmistakably Little Flowers. When they arrive, pop them straight into a clean vase with plenty of water and enjoy the slow unfurling. Few things lift a room (or a mood) quite like it.

Peony season is short, but maybe that’s what makes it so special. You can’t rush it, and once it’s over, it’s over – until next spring.
For a few bright weeks each year, Sydney gets swept up in the beauty of these big, bold blooms. They fill homes, offices and front steps with colour, reminding us that some things are worth waiting for.
When the season’s done, our other Seasonal Flowers take over – each one with its own rhythm and reason to love it. If you’ve missed Peony season, our Daily Mixed Bouquet is available year-round and always features the best of what’s in bloom.
But for now, it’s Peony time – and we’re making the most of every stem.
