Some suburbs just know how to send a feel-good bunch of flowers. Over the years, we’ve delivered to rooftops in Bondi, converted terraces in Surry Hills, and sunny front porches in Newtown – and in the process, we’ve noticed something kind of wonderful. The flowers may be similar, but the reasons, messages, and vibes often have distinctly different feels. That’s part of what we love most about what we do: each neighbourhood has its own rhythm, its own language of gifting. From a Friday “you’re amazing” to a Monday “still thinking of you,” every bunch tells a story. This post is our little ode to three of the most expressive spots we deliver to – and the people who send, receive, and repost with such character and care. We’ve been delivering to these neighbourhoods for over a decade – it’s part of what makes Little Flowers Sydney feel so rooted in the city.
Bondi isn’t just about beaches and brunch spots – it’s also one of the most romantic suburbs we deliver to. This place has a flair for the dramatic and the quietly grand. On any given morning, we might be delivering a poppy bouquet to someone’s clifftop balcony with a tag that has a particularly romantic, poetic or sometimes cheeky message. We’ve had flower treasure hunts, flower date night invites and not-so-secret admirers. There’s a clear pattern here: reds, pinks, soft pastels, and wild, joyful textures are the go-to. Poppies, Ranunculus, Dahlias – anything bold and pretty. It’s also one of our top suburbs for flower deliveries on the regular – Bondi senders love our flower subscriptions – particularly our surprise flower subscription – an easy and playful way to keep the romance alive.
Fridays and Sundays are peak delivery times in Bondi. It’s the suburb of pre-date gestures, weekend resets, and post-beach surprises. We often see people sending flowers to their partner’s place ahead of a weekend, or treating themselves after a long week. Mondays are for mood-lifters, with lots of people working from home.
It’s also one of the most visually expressive suburbs we deliver to at Little Flowers. We regularly spot photos on the message tags going to Bondi – selfies with best friends, babies and beaus. There’s a culture of celebrating the people they love and special moments that matter.
There’s also a quiet eco-consciousness here. We’ve seen it in email feedback, the frequency of repeat orders, and the overwhelming support for our sustainable mini Christmas trees – many of which ended up on Bondi balconies and living rooms. Whether it’s a Monday mood-lifter or a weekend gesture, we’re proud that Little Flowers Sydney is part of this beautiful beach side culture.
Mini Christmas tree deliveries in Bondi were a big hit — eco joy by the sea.
Surry Hills is one of those suburbs that has given us a lot of fun and lovely flower delivery stories over the years. It’s full of freelancers and creative studios – but also restaurants, salons, and small businesses that have been here for years. Little Flowers has delivered to film sets, florists (yes, really), and design offices with lots of regular drops to familiar faces, which we love. The senders to Surry Hills are not scared of putting special delivery request on their flower orders either. “Can you do the Elaine Dance when you deliver” (we practiced, but have to admit we were slightly relieved when the recipient wasn’t at her desk when we arrived), “Can you play Happy by Pharrell Williams on Spotify when you deliver” (we did – and loved it!) Keep them coming – we can’t always oblige, but we do our best to talk our bike couriers into it!
While it used to be all about office deliveries, these days we’re seeing just as many Surry Hills bunches go to people working from home. Some are from teammates across Sydney – others come from ex-colleagues now scattered around the country (and occasionally, the world). One recipient got a bunch with a video message stitched together by six co-workers in different cities – one in front of Flinders Street Station, another walking past Sydney Uni, another beaming from a beach in WA. All of them signed off the same way: “We miss you.”
One of our favourite regular stops — Surry Hills, you’ve got great flower energy.
Recently, Thursdays have been the biggest flower delivery day in Surry Hills. Perhaps it’s the start of the wind-down, a pause between the last-minute meetings and the weekend buzz. We often see group orders for someone’s farewell, or solo bunches sent just because someone’s having a rough week.
Flower-wise, Surry Hills leans toward single variety, seasonal bouquets and we always see a surge in scented flowers going to this suburb – like Stock and David Austin Roses. Tulips and Roses are perennial favourites, especially among studio teams and self-gifters. And Sunflowers? A surprise hit – especially in winter when you need a little desk sunshine.
That familiar Inner West feeling: front porch, warm bunch, just because.
Newtown has always marched to the beat of its own drum – and the flower gifting here is no different. It’s often expressive and a little offbeat, which we love. Little Flowers has been delivering here since the very beginning, back when we operated out of a café around the corner in St Peters and many of our earliest customers were locals popping in for a coffee and a bunch. Lots of them still order, all these years later.
One of the things we love about Newtown? We see an unusually high number of orders sent from pets – and sometimes to them. We’ve seen bunches signed off by Archie the Cavoodle, Moonbeam the rescue cat, and even Max the blue-tongue lizard (who, apparently, has excellent taste in ranunculus). People often include pet photos or funny taglines like “Sorry I chewed your slipper” or “Happy gotcha day, Mum.”
Sunflowers are a clear favourite in Newtown too – especially on rainy days, when a big yellow bloom can break through the gloom. As spring approaches and the colours start to shift, we often see orders from Newtown spike. It’s like the brighter the bunches get, the more this suburb leans in. We love seeing that rhythm play out year after year.
Sunflowers and smiles — Newtown knows how to send joy.
Self-gifting is big in Newtown, too. It’s most often with the little bouquet from our Daily Mixed Bouquet range. Regulars might send a bunch to themselves on a Monday, or mark a milestone quietly with flowers.
One of our favourite Newtown moments though? When we did a little Sunflower give-away for Kindness Day, because we got to meet so many of the lovely locals in person. We just need to bring more Sunflowers next time though – they were snapped up so quickly! You can check out a little video on Instagram here – it’s one of our favourite Little Flowers Sydney moments!
Bondi, Newtown and Surry Hills might look different on the surface – beachside balconies, city terraces, back lanes buzzing with music and dogs – but they all have this in common: people who send flowers with beautiful sentiments. The messages are thoughtful. The timing is intentional. The gestures are warm, sometimes funny, sometimes quiet, but always full of heart.
So this is also a thank you. To the senders we know and love – and the ones we haven’t met yet – thank you for keeping the little moments alive. That’s what Little Flowers has always been about — everyday gestures, sent with heart. For sending joy on a Monday. For remembering someone’s work anniversary. For making space for softness in the middle of a big week.
And whether you’re sending down the street or across the country, we’re here to help you make it count – one perfectly timed bunch at a time.
